84 slaughtered in France “terrorist” truck assault

Pleasant: A shooter crushed a truck into a horde of revelers observing Bastille Day in the French Riviera city of Nice, killing no less than 84 individuals in what President Francois Hollande on Friday called a “terrorist” assault.
Hollande pronounced three days of grieving after the ambush, as the shellshocked nation got itself again grieving its dead after assaults on Charlie Hebdo magazine in January 2015 and the November 2015 slaughter in Paris. “France was struck on its national day … the image of flexibility,” said Hollande in a serious broadcast address in the early hours of Friday morning.
The assault was of an ‘irrefutable terrorist nature’, he said, affirming that few youngsters were among the dead. The firearm toting driver furrowed the 19-ton truck at fast two kilometers through a group that had been getting a charge out of a firecrackers show on France’s July 14 national occasion.
Pleasant’s palm-lined Promenade des Anglais was left strewn with bodies as hundreds fled in dread.
In a video saw more than 4,500 times on Facebook, a trembling witness, Tarubi Wahid Mosta, related the ghastliness on the promenade.
“I practically ventured on a body, it was terrible. It resembled a combat zone,” he said. He took photos of a surrendered doll and pushchair and depicted the feeling of weakness confronted with the butchery. “Every one of these bodies and their families … they invested hours on the ground holding the chilly hands of bodies eviscerated by the truck. You can’t address them or solace them,” he said. Powers distinguished the driver as a 31-year-old French-Tunisian native and said he had discharged a weapon a few times before police shot him dead. Police sources said he had been formally distinguished from papers found in the truck and was known not powers. Inside service representative Pierre-Henry Brandet said 84 individuals were slaughtered and scores harmed in the gore, incorporating 18 in ‘basic condition’.
The assault focused on Bastille Day, the day that celebrates the begin of the French Revolution.
